The Power of Appreciation

Life is a strange mix of ups and downs. Whether planned or unexpected, life’s events take us to new places, stir different emotions and influence our attitudes. Having just finished celebrating the Christmas season, we may be feeling up or we may be feeling blue. A lot depends on whether or not our expectations were met, whether we were with encouraging family or with family that encourages "not-so-much."  We now turn our attention to a New Year and all that it holds. We honestly have no idea what the next 365 days will bring and the ride that it will provide.

As I post for the last time this year, I want to write for a minute about appreciation. I received a phone call from an Angel today that made my day. Her heart had been touched and she wanted to say "thank you." Her gratefulness was evident and her encouragement was plenty. It blessed my heart and lifted my spirit. She had no way of knowing that this was the perfect day to receive such a gift. I was struck by the power of appreciation. Her positive words worked wonders. I thought about the time that it took for her to make that phone call and the money that it cost for her to call long distance, but I SO appreciated the effort!

Who has encouraged you along life’s road this past year? Who has come alongside to help in a time of need or when you least expected it? Did you take the time to say thank you? Did you pay it forward and do the same for them or for someone else who was in need? I have found that a little appreciation can go a L-O-N-G way! It can change the course of a person’s day, restore their hope, encourage their heart and sometimes, unknowingly, can change the course of a life.

As we say goodbye to 2007, I encourage you to thank the people you need to, encourage the people you know to, and appreciate the many ways in which you’ve been blessed, both by people and circumstances.

Here’s to you, your dreams, and a wonderful New Year!

Abundant Blessings,

Debbie~
