If you’re at all like me, you shy away from New Year’s Resolutions. I’m all for being hopeful for the New Year but don’t like the feeling of failure I experience about 3 months into the year when I break my promises to myself. In recent years, I have changed the terminology, but always try to set goals in my mind and heart to work toward.
This year, I decided to use The Angel Company’s new "Life is Short" stamp set to communicate my intentions for the year. It makes them sound more fun, more realistic and more attainable. They focus much more on who I am and who I plan to be, then what I will do or not do. I listed 8, put them into a little book and titled it, "Life is Short, but It’s Also Deep." Here are some of my thoughts as I enter 2008…
Life is too short to let my looks keep me from doing what I want. I intend to live life to its fullest this year.
Life is short… make your own joy. I intend to create joy, whenever possible, this year.
Life is short… celebrate moments. I intend to celebrate moments big and small.
Life is too short to forget to say I love you. I intend to be loving and express love this year.
Life is too short to skip dessert. I intend to indulge without guilt when necessary.
Life is short… tell your story. I intend to continue to write and tell my story in the process.
Life is too short to forget about the small things. I intend to pay attention to the people, things and circumstances that are all too often easily overlooked.
Life is too short to forget about your dreams. I intend to dream more than ever this year.
I will do it "anyway." You may have heard the song entitled, "Anyway" by Martina McBride. The chorus is my favorite part. It says, "God is great but sometimes life ain’t good, and when I pray it doesn’t always turn out like I think it should, but I do it anyway." It is about living with intention… doing what we know is right even if it doesn’t seem to work out. We "build" even though a storm may blow it all away. We "love" even though that person may walk away or pass away. We "sing" even if we don’t have an audience and dream even when we don’t see those dreams coming true. We do it "anyway."
I will hold my faith close, I will continue to pray and dare to believe, no matter what comes my way in 2008. I may not reach my goal weight, accomplish all my goals or have my dreams come true, but I will be that much closer to becoming the person I really want to be.
As we journey into this new year with unchartered territory, may you discover and enjoy the depth and width of your life this year. Believe, love, build, sing and dream… anyway!
