I have been thinking more and more about my "Life is Short – Live With Intention" goals for this year. My little book is complete with the exception of one page that is noticibly blank. It says, "Life is too short to forget about your dreams." I have no supporting pictures or quotes, not even one dream written down. Back in November I wrote about daring to dream in my blog, so I recently started trying to compile a list of dreams. My goal is 100. So far, I have 23. I knew I wasn’t too good at dreaming, and that became very evident as I saw it printed in black and white. As a result, I am determined to think bigger and more creatively to list 100 dreams as I ponder this life that I live.
I recently saw a movie called "The Bucket List." I rarely make time in my schedule to go see movies but when I saw the commercials, it looked to me as though it may be one of those "rich" movies that would go hand in hand with the ‘Life is Too Short’ mentality. (I also love most everything that Morgan Freeman has ever been in!) I went with paper and pen poised, because great thoughts and dialogue often hit me when I least expect it. This time I went with a sense of expectancy.
As you may or may not know, the movie is about two men who compile a list of things to do before they "kick the bucket." Though it does have much humor, it also has some great lessons. Just as with any of our list of dreams, there are many things we would want to see and do, given the finances to be able to do it. It is one of the key things that gets in the way of our dreams. Freeman’s character, however, thought beyond the material things that this world has to offer and pursued gifts of other kinds. For example, one of the things on his list was to "witness something truly majestic." That may be one of those treasures that money cannot buy!
My favorite, though, was one of the guiding principles he used to shape his life. Have you found joy in your life? And, have others found joy because of you? That certainly colors our lives with a different perspective. I like it. I think I will use it as I continue to compile my dream list. What brings me joy? How can I live so that I bring joy to others? One thing I do know about joy. It is different from happiness. We can have joy even in the midst of troubling circumstances. So… no matter what is going on in your life as we begin 2008, I encourage you to keep dreaming, keep living with intention and keep pursuing joy.
One of the stamps in our Life is Short stamp set says, "Life is too short to wait for just the right time." In other words… "Don’t wait, dream it in 2008!" Or, you may want to go a few steps further… "Don’t wait-achieve it in 2008!" Let this be your time!
Continuing to Dream with You,
