Perhaps I’m too honest in telling you that I didn’t plan on posting today. It is the 4th of July. It is a holiday. And… I am on vacation. I am enjoying time at the beach in California with my brother and his family. Today, my sister and her family arrived too. It’s going to be a great day!
Yesterday, my brother walked me over to a place that he said would be perfect to post my blog from. He even told me I could use his laptop. It warmed my heart… the fact that he knows I have a blog and that I post it on Fridays. He’s even read it a few times. He took me to a place overlooking the ocean. Gorgeous. Relaxing. Inspiring to be sure. So, I figured, I must write.
Today, however, time and attention has been with my family. My thoughts were not brainstorming topics for my blog. It has been wonderful to be together to laugh and play and still know that we all understand the emotions of remembering that tomorrow is the 3 month anniversary since mom passed away. It is the true freedom that we have with family… to keep it real, happy or sad.Talk has now turned to when to fire up the grill and where to best view the fireworks displays and I just realized the day is nearly over and I haven’t posted my blog.
So, in honor of Independence Day and family who continues to encourage me to write, I will share some snippets of journaling I have done on this trip. They are independent of any cohesive subject… just some of the things I’ve jotted down along the way. They may or may not be inspiring to you but hopefully will encourage you to continue to take notes throughout your own unique life.
Greeted by gardenias… probably my favorite natural scent. Entering the gate to the condo, they speak to me saying, "Welcome. Breathe deeply, relax and linger here."
I bought some ‘vintage organ envelopes’ at Ever After Scrapbook Store in Carlsbad. I have no idea what they are for but was immediately drawn to them. They make me think outside the box and ponder the possibilities. They were $4.95 – a price I would have difficulty justifying to anyone else, but a very small price to pay for inspiration. With lines on the outside, I now get to quiet my heart and think about the thoughts I will fill them with.
I got a new camera a couple of weeks ago. I have little idea how to use it. But I can tell already I am going to love it. I have much to learn. The one thing I do know, however, is that is has 10x optical zoom. Major selling point. Many wonderful features. I just need to learn how to access them all and take advantage of them. Great pictures will help tell my story. It’s not so different from life. Life has many wonderful features. Some are tucked away. Sometimes we need to push this button in order to access something deeper. All too often we are scared to explore, scared to make mistakes, scared to ‘break it.’ So, we use computers as typewriters and awesome cameras like a one time use camera. We live life on the surface… more leary than excited about what we will discover. I need to explore more. I have lots to learn. I think I’ll begin with my camera.
What will this day hold? Time with family… no schedule… time by the water… few demands… laughter… that’s all I know so far. And that is enough.
To all of you who have loved ones fighting to preserve our freedom, thank you (and thank them for me.) I wish you enough. Happy 4th of July!
