I recently overheard a commercial saying that 'numbers change your life'. I'm not sure if it was for the census or what. By the time I looked at the television, it was too late to see what they were advertising. The phrase, however, has stuck with me.
I am a letter girl. I love words… The Word, descriptive words, silly words, words in books, words in quotes, and yes, even words on billboards and in commercials! They have all had a big influence on my life. Letters change my life too. In fact, I received an email from an Angel today that greatly encouraged me. It was entirely unexpected and encouraged me to keep listening to that gentle voice that I referred to in my last blog. It's amazing how letters and words can influence us either positively or negatively.
Numbers? Not so much? Math? Not my thing. When our younger daughter was two she was amazing at putting together puzzles. Our older daughter's kindergarten teacher had observed that and told me that she would be a wiz at math. She would look at billboards (yes, it must be genetic!) and say things like, "4 E's," "2 T's," etc., etc. She would always be right. Mrs. Thomas was also right. Jenna grew to be good at learning math and calculating numbers. As for me and numbers, here are the few I could think of that really have changed my life.
One husband – twenty-three years. Two daughters, now twenty-one and eighteen. The three of them collectively have helped shape my life into something I never would have imagined otherwise.
An encounter when I was just thirteen with the One that has changed my life the most. Countless prayers, church services and worship songs later, He is still the One that I seek in good times and bad, and the only One who can truly change my heart.
What about you? Whether you are a number cruncher or a word person, it's kind of fun to reflect on the differences they have made in your life. Oh, and if you're preparing a special Easter celebration, you have sixteen more days!
