Lightening the Load

January 2013 RAK Attack 007Doing laundry can be drudgery at any given time or place but getting out on a cold morning, and hauling your clothes to the laundromat takes extra added effort. So imagine people’s surprise when someone steps in to help lighten their load!

Though Saturday was only our 2nd “official” Random Acts of Kindness adventure, we have found laundromats to be a wonderful place to bless people! This time out, we had 3 cars full of people and so each car was assigned a specific laundromat . Once again we had made up these packs of laundry supplies, which included 5 detergent ‘pods’, 5 dryer sheets and $2.00 worth of quarters. Each team also had $20 in cash to use however they wanted to. One team used that to help buy more laundry detergent for the 18 people in the laundromat they visited. They served hot chocolate to everyone and helped carry in loads of laundry from vehicles as people arrived.  One man even entrusted that same team to go get $30 worth of quarters for him, since the change machine was not working!

The laundromat our team visited only had a few people in it at the time but they were all in awe of and very grateful for our gifts. It was cold and drafty inside so the hot chocolate was received with enthusiasm. We were also able to bless a little girl with a scarf, pair of gloves and a  children’s treat bag (with fruit cup, juice, snack and toy).

I encourage you to look with new eyes this week on your drive to work or school. Notice the people waiting at the  bus stop,  or walking to where they need to be. Do you see someone a bit downtrodden or discouraged by the load they bear? Try to think of one thing you could do to lighten their load, make their life a bit easier and their day a bit brighter… if only for a moment.  I guarantee it will be a day brightener for you as well!

Anxious to Tell You of More RAK Adventures!
