Loving Our Community

An agency here in town is having a little contest.

They have five  $1,000 grants to give away to people who love their community.

So, I’m thinking to myself… those random acts of kindness that we’ve been doing… they have definitely expressed unconditional love to our community!  The deadline to apply was today.  So, I applied!  I was limited to 300 characters, {not words} to describe my “project.” For those of you who read my writings, you know I can be a bit too wordy, but I did it!

Project Name: Acts of Kindness Adventures

Project Description:  We venture out to bus stops, laundromats, truck stops, parks, homes and wherever else we can brighten a day. We are equipped with supplies and cash so we are able to show love in practical ways, no strings attached. A grant would enable us to do this monthly and meet more needs throughout our city.

These are the images from our latest “adventure” that I attached to our application.

I will give you more information in the next week or so.  The winners will be based on the number of votes they receive.  I am hoping that out of town and out of state people can vote as well as Salina residents.  I will let you know when I find out the guidelines. Oh, and the winners will be announced February 14!

This is awesome Debbie! Can I vote somewhere?

    • debbierivers says:

Thanks, Corrie! Yes, you absolutely can vote {and tell all your friends!}. Voting will open at noon on February 6 and close at noon on February 13. You must go to the Greater Salina Community Foundation’s Facebook page to vote. I’m hoping they will send me a link and more detailed guidelines in the next couple days. If they do, I will be sure to pass them along!

Thanks Dixie! Actually I will post again in the next couple days with the details on voting. You will actually need to go to Greater Salina Community Foundation’s Facebook page and vote for my project. I am expecting to get more guidelines and a link soon. Voting opens at noon on February 6 and closes at noon on February 13.

So great you and the team have such big hearts to do this !!!

    • debbierivers says:

Thanks Sondra! I appreciate your encouragement. Unfortunately, I found out my grant application was rejected because it does not meet the needs of the whole community. So sad!
