Food For Thought

We “paid” a friend for some work with an Olive Garden Gift Card.

A few days later his wife returned it to me, telling me they had discussed it and want that money to go towards feeding the group of young adults that I feed each Tuesday night.

I reluctantly took it back. My husband gets a little upset that they didn’t let us bless them. Her husband tells my husband that we are keeping him from blessing others if we don’t take the card back. It got a bit comical… and we kept the card.

Now, how exactly, do I best feed 12 people with $25 at Olive Garden? I know one of the managers there so I call to see what I can get for $25 to feed 12. I know it sounds almost absurd so he asks me more questions. He asks me who these people are that I feed, what are the circumstances that led to a weekly dinner, etc., etc.  He decided to generously donate what I could not afford. So, last night I came home with 2 jumbo salads, 2 bottles of salad dressing, 24 bread sticks and $6.00 left on my gift card.  Really?! I am amazed!  I made lasagna to complete the meal and EVERYBODY was happy!

Once again, I was compelled to share the story of God’s faithful provision for this Tuesday night meal, before we sat down to eat. I reminded them of our last Acts Of Kindness Adventure when one of our cars stopped at the construction sight of what is now our completed Olive Garden and gave the construction crew hot chocolate. Then they decided to drive through and order as many hamburgers as they could for that same crew. They took back about 20 burgers and fed them lunch.

Some would say that’s an interesting coincidence.  Perhaps serendipity… a happy accident! {Still others wouldn’t even think it’s interesting!} I am just naïve enough to believe that it’s a God-thing.  Another example of His amazing provision. Another example of what happens when we all work together and of how He loves to work in community. I choose to believe that we reap what we sow.

I am always excited to see the bigger picture and to be a part of sharing it with others. Last night, that big picture gave us goose bumps… and we gave thanks.

Still Thanking Him Today,
